    1. Much in this amazing novella. It's incredibly layered and subtle, even as it hurls forward with a Special Ops team on a secret mission. At heart, the story challenges its believable and real characters to confront who is the "us" and "them" of war -- and by extension asks the same of the reader. How do the ways in which we define/identify ourselves contribute to an overwhelming sense of difference between us, when in fact we, as human beings, have much more in common than what separates us. I was [...]

The descriptions of Afghanistan and the daily situations felt real, allowing me to picture the setting as well as the lively action in my mind. Sollerh did an excellent job also with character development as their actions and reactions felt authentic and trueI definitely could not put the book down and recommend this book to everyone looking for a great, fast-paced read!"Michel Vio [...]

    4. The story seamlessly introduces us to a new technology, capable of making a soldier believe, at least for a time, that he is a member of the enemy. Sollerh uses this premise to take into a realistic world of post-American occupation Afghanistan, where a world of special forces tries to carry on the work of opposing the Taliban. The characters were real, and their challenges and dangers also feel real and vivid. The story then takes on an unexpected depth and richness as it organically explores t [...]

    5. I received Darryl Sollerh's novella yesterday in the mail (as part of the GoodReads giveaway program), and I wasn't able to put it down once I picked it up. Granted, it's only 80 pages, but I would attribute the readability more to the pace and style of the story than its short length. This book is an action-packed adventure; when the plot isn't hurtling forward to the conclusion through direct narration, the reader is treated to dialogue. This isn't to say that Sollerh's work is devoid of importa [...]

    6. Read this on recommendation from a friend, and I have to say I really found myself involved in the story and characters. It moves at really fast, and made me feel as if I was right there in the story, moment to moment. Although there is a sci fi element to it, or at least a technology at play that's more advanced than what we have today, it's totally believable in the context of the story, and actually sets up a gripping drama. As you can tell, I really liked this one. Highly recommended!

    7. A truly intriguing novella that has me thinking about it long after the final page. A compact, intense journey, with a love story that rings true. Highly recommend.
