    2. A cute if short UF novel. The setting is ambiguous so it could be pretty much anywhere in the world. The worldbuilding is sparse but enough to transport a reader fully into the world. I'e never run into gargoyles before in any of the UF novels I've read and that's what really made an impression on me. Also the baby gargoyles are cute as hell. I want one. Or ten! The story is fast-paced and quite short. A good start for a series and I'll definitely check out the rest.

    3. Magic of the Gargoyles (Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles #1) by Rebecca Chastain is an exciting novella that had me the first page when a baby gargoyle blasted into her room asking for help. How does that not get a reader's attention? She learns she can heal gargoyles, although she is just a mid-level earth element magic user. From there it sent us readers to a shady underground where baby gargoyles were being sold off illegally and our gal risks life (and whole life savings) to rescue them against [...]

    4. Fantastic world building, sassy characters, and adorable gargoyles. At times the magic-language got a bit clunky, but beyond this, Magic of the Gargoyles was a thoroughly enjoyable story. I am keen to explore this series further.

    5. There's plenty of detailed worldbuilding in this urban fantasy, but my problem was that it was too thrown at me with no introduction, explanation or narration. The main character uses earth elemental magic and we gradually understand that she is working at mid-level and there are higher levels to attain. At this stage she gets a bullying boss, can't call in sick or be late on a contract. But her story starts with the arrival of an injured young gargoyle in her room, which she would treat as norm [...]

    6. openbooksociety/article/maBrought to you by OBS reviewer Scott Novellas are a rare creature these days, and when they appear, they vary wildly in quality. Magic of the Gargoyles is an engrossing change of pace, telling a solid tale and engaging the reader with colorful characters, all within the constraints of the under 20,000 word format. In a form appealing to teens and up, Rebecca Chastain breaks another plateau in her writing career. And those words weave Rebecca Chastain’s breakneck, hard [...]

    7. The heroine of Magic of the Gargoyles, Mika, is trying to hone her skills in quartz but right in the middle of her first job, she has a baby gargoyle at her door, frantic and scared. Unsure about what is going on, Mika follows the baby into a really bad part of town only to discover powerful elementals abusing their gifts. Upon completion of her current mission, the baby gargoyle indicates that rest of of her nest has also been kidnapped and will be sold to the highest, and meanest, bidders. Mik [...]

    8. Magic of the Gargoyles by Rebecca ChastainEarth Elemental Mika Stillwater is on a mission to save a nest of baby gargoyles. Mika must save them from the Black Magic villains who want to use the gargoyles magic for an evil power boost. When their magic is taken so are their lives.A very original novella. Mika is likable, she is determined to do the right thing, and save the baby gargoyles. The Gargoyles are so adorable and likable. I have never read a story like this. It was fun, adventurous, dan [...]

    9. I was absolutely blown away by Magic of the Gargoyles and blown away by Rebecca Chastain. The descriptions of the world that Mika resides in immediately caught my attention. From the very beginning, I was hooked! The book weaves together a tale with magic in a way that reminds me of why I love fantasy.Mika was a great character! I loved her resolve at helping the baby gargoyles. I hope that I can read more about Mika and her magical worlds from this promising author. You cannot go wrong with Mag [...]

    10. This made for a quick but uneventful read. The storyline and characters just fell flat for me. It had a very juvenile feel to it throughout. I guess I wasn’t a fan of it because the story and character development seemed nonexistent. I am glad it was offered as a kindleunlimited though and I'd still check out some of this writers other work.

    11. "Magic of the Gargoyles" is such a sweet little novella. it is hard to believe that Ms. Chastain was able to pack so much action and excitement in only 79 pages; yet, she did it!Mika Stillwater is an elemental who has great skill in working with gems especially quartz. She has been slaving away working in a quarry and now has a chance to work for herself and open up her own shop if she can just finish up some vials for a client at a prestigious firm. She has half of her work complete so it shoul [...]

    12. I freaking love this book! I am seriously hoping this turns into a series- I have a feeling it will because we have gargoyles on the loose here, but I NEED another one. I have fallen in love with everyone! I read it way too fast, it is short but I wanted more! And gargoyles have been my thing lately. They are now up there with werewolves and dragons! We start with Mika. She's a normal not really powerful witch. Well, I'm gunna use witch so no one gets confused, but I will let you find out exactl [...]

    13. One of the few times I bought an e-book without reading the blurb , even a free one, I hit jackpot. The book cover and the word 'Gargoyles' made me get it and I can say without hesitation that I haven't regretted it!The picture and the name are self explanatory. The book cover is like the story, unpretentious and solid. The plot is simple but chock-full of adventure and action, action meaning fantasy-kind action and not too much violence. We have a plucky heroine, Mika and her side kick and best [...]

    14. Modestly entertaining urban fantasy adventure story in magic-heavy alternate world. The heroine is sort of like a cat lady, but she collects stray gargoyles instead of cats. Oh, and she has to thwart a bad guy who likes to torture gargoyles to extract their magic. As a simple adventure of good guys vs bad guys, it works fairly well. It's quite a short book, which makes it a quick read, but also means the author doesn't spend much time on world-building. It's difficult to know what the world is r [...]

    15. Short, Sweet Fun ReadI'd definitely like to see a full novel set in this intriguing new world created by Ms. Chastain. Not only would I like to read and learn more about this world and its interesting elemental magic system but I'd like to see Mika's story continue.Hopefully as she grows in her skill with magic she will gain more self confidence as well, the level of self deprecation she displayed was the only true negative aspect to this novella for me.If you're looking for a fun glimpse into a [...]

    16. Loved ItAmazing story, I've always be curious about Crystal/quartz magic and in this incredibly woven tale I get to see. Can't wait to read more adventures with Mika and the hatchlings

    17. Magic of the GargoylesA different kind of gargoyle story, fun fast paced full of action. I read this in an afternoon, and cannot find enough good things to say about it!

    18. Really enjoyed short story. Reminiscent of Tamora Pierce, Patricia Reede. Not a cliff hanger, story stands on its own. Looking forward to much more of this world and its characters.

    19. Great book. Loved it so much I already one-clicked the bundle and am half way through the second book. This is a world of magic, which isn't always my favorite one books, but I can't resist gargoyles. I mean who can. She's a mid level elemental that is found by a baby gargoyle and needs her help. She ends up saving the other baby gargoyle, then 3 additional onesere are 5 siblings in all. Where are their parents you ask idea. Not sure how that works in this world and it's never actually explained. [...]

    20. I read another series by the author which I only rated as 1 star but I liked the sound of this series and decided to give it a try anyway. I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed this one.Mika is in a job she hates with a boss she dislikes, trying to save up enough money to go into business for herself. She has her eye on premises for her new business and to get it she is taking on jobs in her free time to get more money and make a reputation for herself, using her elemental magic and affinity f [...]

    21. All earth elemental Mika has ever dreamed of is opening her own store where she can sell her magical creations, she has been saving for months and almost has enough to put down a deposit on a shop in an ideal location, all she needs to do is complete her latest order in time and her dreams will finally come true. Everything changes when a young gargoyle hatchling turns up at Mika's apartment begging for help. The gargoyle's siblings have all been kidnapped and their lives are in great danger as [...]

    22. Magic of the Gargoyles by Rebecca ChastainMind Your Muse Books, 2014Fantasy; 79 pgsAfter having read and enjoyed Rebecca Chastain's A Fistful of Evil last year, I eagerly accepted her offer to read and review her novella, Magic of the Gargoyles. I love urban fantasy and this particular story sounded different and interesting.Mika Stillwater is in a serious financial bind, trying to work her way into a better life. The side job she took on is on a tight deadline and the boss on her day job is str [...]

    23. “Just really, really believe in what you’re trying to do. Don’t let people alter that. Let people advise you and lead you down paths to make smart business decisions. But trust your instinct and trust that overwhelming drive that made you put all your dreams and everything on the line.” – Luke BryanMagic of the GargoylesAll Mika Stillwater wants to do is finish this finicky, delicate job, get paid, and maybe, just maybe, get some sleep. That doesn’t seem like such a huge request, doe [...]

    24. Mika, a mid-level earth elemental, wants to be her own boss and her dream is to own a Pinnacle Pentagon Showroom but first she needs to finish making 12 of her one-of-a-kind quartz masterpieces, if she manages to sell them all she can then afford a down payment. With one last twist of a filament of earth magic, I fused together the delicate seams of the quartz tube. Slumping forward, I braced my elbows on the table and rested my cheekbones on my palms, cupping my weary eyes in darkness. Six down, [...]

    25. Mika is a mid-level earth elemental it’s how she pays the bills with big plans to become a quartz artisan. That is till the night the baby gargoyle burst into the house needing help for her brother. 27. MAGIC OF THE GARGOYLES is the first book in the Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles series by Rebecca Chastain.Setting: Terra HavenSexual Content: noneTense: PastPoint of View: First PersonAlthough it’s only 97 pages, it’s jam-packed with action and excitement. I really enjoyed reading this novella. The story is about a young woman named Mika who has magical abilities working with quartz. She is asked to help a baby gargoyle save her brother. Mika learns that her abilities are greater than she knew. [...]

    28. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. It deserves it. I started this book without knowing anything about the author. I am so glad I did! This book had me captured from the very beginning. Mika is a mid level earth elemental with a speciality in quartz. She lacks the confidence to venture into anything other than what she's now doing. So, when she is basically attacked by a gargoyle hatchling begging for help she doesn't know what to do. She does know she can not do nothing, so she goes to he [...]

    29. I love Gargoyles. Always have. I go out of my way to find books about them. So when I read the blurb for this one, I had to grab it. And though the book was waaaaaay shorter than I thought it would be (seriously, so short), I really enjoyed the uniqueness of it. The world is really interesting in regards to how magic and elementals are viewed, and I definitely want to know more about it. The story is very cool and I enjoyed it a lot, and who can say no to baby Gargoyles? Another highlight was Mi [...]
